Abstract

S. Koenig. What I Wish I Had Known Early in Graduate School but Didn't (and how to prepare for a good job afterward). Artificial Intelligence Magazine, 41, (1), 90-100, 2020.

Abstract: Begin with the end in mind! Ph.D. students in Artificial Intelligence (AI) can start to prepare for their career after their Ph.D. degree immediately when joining graduate school, and probably in many more ways than they think. To help them with that, the author has asked current and recently graduated Ph.D. students on the computer science Ph.D. mailing list of the University of Southern California (USC) and his own Ph.D. students for the important lessons they learned (perhaps too late) and presents this information, together with the advice of Nobel Prize and Turing Award winners and many other researchers (including his own advice), in this publication.
